When calendar pages turn to December, I often think of Kentucky winters and the chilling winds that moved through the Ohio Valley in my childhood years. A warmth comes to my mind when I recall the Beige Car Coats that hung in the small closet just inside the front door of our 1529 McKay Street home in Louisville, Kentucky.
The first winter that our Father was employed at the downtown location of Selman’s Department Store, he purchased a Beige Car Coat for each member of our family.
I can still see his proud grin as he watched us put on those Beige Car Coats, and with matching attire, head out that McKay Street front door to stride into whatever a winter day had in store for us.
The memories of that proud Father grin and a closet full of Beige Car Coats are more than enough to keep me warm through any winter season.
