Ladders have been respected in our family history for many years. There is the story of Uncle George seeing Aunt Louise up on a ladder painting her Preston Street home. Being a kind-hearted relative, he called her to come down and finished the job himself.

Somewhere in our family archives, there is a photo of my Mother and Aunt Doris up on ladders painting the lap siding of our McKay Street house.

So I knew it was my turn to climb when my Mother mentioned the wooden lap siding on her Clarks Lane home needed a coat of paint. With the assistance of younger relatives, the job was completed in short order but in a few weeks’ time, paint began to chip off the siding.  We had used acrylic paint over the top of the previous oil paint coating

It was fortunate that Mr. Furgason owed me money from our income tax return. The solution was that I would furnish the materials and he would provide the labor to install new siding.

Off I went to charge vinyl siding and supplies at Levy’s Lumber Company, one of my favorite shopping places,

We were all pleased to know the Clarks Lane home would never again see a ladder propped for painting.
